HISTORY

This group is composed of student researchers, young inventors, science research advisers, science department heads, supervisors,technology livelihood educators and school principals in the Division of City Schools Manila.

It began as an adopted group of the Manila Innoventors Development Society (MINDS) in 2005 under the tutelage of Dr. Virgilio L. Malang, President.

Prior to its integration in the Manila Innoventors Development Society (MINDS), the group has its humble beginnings as a Science Club in the Division of City Schools, Manila.















MILESTONES

2008


The Philippine delegation which was composed of student-inventors and their research advisers from Manila Science High School and Ramon Magsaysay High School won in the Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) 2008 in the 6th Regional Congress organized by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and Regional Center for Education in Science and Mathematics (RECSAM), with the theme: Sustainable Community Development through Science and Mathematics held at Penang, Malaysia on March 3-6, 2008.(Memorandum No. 263, May 9, 2008).



The Philippine delegation which was composed of student-inventors and their research advisers from Manila Science High School, Jose Abad Santos High School, and Ramon Magsaysay High School won in the 2008 International Exhibition for Young Inventors held on September 24-29, 2008 in Tainan and participated in by 150 entries from the different countries. The Philippine delegation which was composed of student researchers and research advisers from Tondo High School, Magsaysay High School , and Manila Science High School won in the 7th Regional Congress Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (RECSAM) with the theme Sustainable Solution for the Local Community, held at Penang, Malaysia on March 2-5, 2010.¡The congress was participated in by nine (9) countries, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, LAOPDR, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.(Memorandum No. 146, March 9, 2010).

The Philippines represented by student inventors and their project advisers from Jose Abad Santos High School, Manila Science High School, and Ramon Magsaysay High School won in the 2010 AZALEA International Youth Invention Exhibition held on February 27-March 8, 2010 in Valdosta, Georgia, USA and participated in by different countries. The Philippine delegation which was composed of student inventors, advisers, head teacher, principals from Tondo High School, Magsaysay High School and other high schools in the National Capital Region won in the 7th International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI 2010) co-organized by the Vietnam Union of Technology and Science Association, the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communists Union and various Ministries and Branches, held at Viet-Xo Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi, Vietnam on December 15-19, 2010.The exhibition was participated in by ten (10) countries, namely: India, Iran,, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Hongkong, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.The competition centered on the five fields: Tools for learning, Informatics Software, Toys Play and Entertainment, Environmental Protection, and Energy Saving. It was called THINK (Tondo High School Innoventors Kiosk) in 2010.




¡Sonny D. Valenzuela was one of the nominees for SEAMEO QITEP in SCIENCE, Fiscal Year 2011 for the Course Title: Training Course on Research and Development which was held on July 17-23,2011 in Bandung, Indonesia. (Memorandum No. 305, June 2, 2011)


¡The Philippine delegation which was composed of student inventors, advisers, head teacher, and principal from Tondo High School and Magsaysay High School won in the 2012 International Youth Invention Exhibition (IYIE 2012) sponsored by the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) and Far East University, Tainan, Taiwan (Republic of China) held on February 10-13, 2012. The said competition was participated in by 11 countries, namely: Taiwan, Hongkong, China, Korea, Vietnam, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. ¡The Philippine delegation which was composed of student inventors, advisers, head teacher, and principal from Tondo High School won in the 2012 7th International Youth Exhibition of Inventions sponsored by the China Association of Inventions, International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA 2012) held on November 8-15, 2012 at Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, China.(Memorandum No.706, December 3, 2012)


¡Invent School Program (ISP) 2013

¡The Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region, in cooperation with the DepED-Manila, Natural Science Instruction and Supervision Section conducted an Invent School Program (ISP) 2013 on April 2 and 3,2013 at Arellano High School for Districts I,II, and III and on April 4 and 5,2013 at Manila Science High School for Districts IV,V, and VI participated by two student representatives, a teacher mentor, and department head per secondary school.

¡The ISP is a 2-day seminar-workshop for high school students, teacher mentors and department heads.

¡The purpose of the seminar is to prepare young inventors for the incoming Regional Invention and Competition Exhibition (RICE) which will be held on August 1-3,2013.

This will also stimulate students’ interest for creativity and inventiveness and create awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Protection.

¡The program provides an opportunity for students not only to develop their creativity and potentials but also to awaken their true ingenuity, leading to the development of devices and processes that will become their enterprises.
¡
¡The ISP serves as a starting ground for young Filipino inventors in the field of inventing and entrepreneurship. (Memorandum No.146, March 11,2013).


In 2013, Mr. Sonny D. Valenzuela became the First President of the Manila Secondary Science Research Advisers Association (MSSRAA).

¡A 3-day inventors’ exhibition spearheaded by the National Association of Public Secondary School Heads,Inc,-National Capital Region (NAPSSHI-NCR), Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) and Guro Ko Bayani Ko Advocates (GBCC) and dubbed as “1st Young Inventors Contest and Exhibition in Tondo” on November 25-28, 2013 at the Tondo Sports Complex, Ylaya Street Manila. ¡This was participated in by both public and private elementary and secondary schools,young inventors,icons of Philippine Inventors, local government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and School Heads/Administrators (Division Advisory No. 145 s.2013 per DepED NCR Advisory No. 217 s.2013)

¡Conducted Seminar-Workshop for the Manila High School Science Research Mentors, with the theme: “MSSRAA Responding to the Challenges of the K to 12 Science Curriculum” on October 30, 2013 and November 22, 2013 at Manila Science High School and Araullo High School,Manila.

¡The objectives are as follows:
¡1. Strengthen the necessary research laboratory skills of the research teachers;
¡
¡2.Expose the research teachers in the latest advances in science and technology specifically in the field of research;
¡
¡3. Enhance the research skills of the research mentors in the proper conduct of science investigatory project;
¡
¡4.create the Division Scientific Review Committee (DSRC) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) that will check, approve if all Science Investigatory Projects (SIP) have the necessary papers/documents needed in a particular research project.

After a year, March 10, 2014, Mr. Valenzuela was promoted Principal of Esteban Abada High School.

¡Philippine delegation which was composed of student inventors, advisers,head teacher,OIC,Secondary Science Supervisor, and principals from Tondo and Abada High Schools won in the 8th International Exhibitions of Inventions IEIK 2014 New Inventions,Technologies, and Products sponsored by the China Association of Inventions and International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA) held on November 18-23, 2014 at Kunshan City,Jiangsu Province ,China.(Memorandum No.16,January 12,2015 & Division Memorandum No.666 ,December 5,2014).

.¡Manila Science High School students garnered different awards in the 2014 International Youth Invention Contest (IYIC) held last August 8-10, 2014 in Seoul, South Korea and in the 2014 International Kaoshiung International Invention Exhibition Contest held last December 19-22,2014, in Kaoshiung,Taiwan.



¡The Manila Young Inventors Association (MYIA),which is composed of the Esteban Abada High School and Victorino Mapa High School garnered medals and special awards in the Thailand Inventors’ Day “Creativity & Inspiration held on February 2-5, 2015 at the Hall Impact Forum Conference Center, Muangthong Thani,Thailand.(Memorandum No.142, March 16, 2015)

After attending the Welcome Reception for Head of International Delegations to the Thailand Inventors' Day 2015 on February 2, at Sapphire 206 Room, Hall 9 (Impact Forum) Impact Muangthong Thani, Nonthaburi Province....and with the encouragement of Soung-Mo Hong,President & CEO of the Korea Invention Academy as well as Annie Chen,Deputy Secretary General of the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations,Taipei,Taiwan.......
On February 4, 2015...... the IDEA of giving BIRTH to the MANILA YOUNG INVENTORS ASSOCIATION was conceived.This will gather and unite all youth inventors in the secondary and elementary schools and even the out-of-school-youths in the City of Manila to be in one organization.

The Manila Young Inventors Association (MYIA), composed of the following schools, namely: Esteban Abada High School,Ramon Magsaysay High School, and Victorino Mapa High School won gold medals and special awards in the 6th Korea Cyber International Genius Inventor Fair (CIGIF) which was held in Chungmu Art Hall Convention Center, Seoul Korea. On February 2-5, 2015,The Manila Young Inventors Association which is composed of Esteban Abada High School, Tondo High School, Ramon Magsaysay high School,Victorino Mapa high School and Villamor High School, bagged numerous awards for the second time in the Thailand Inventors' Day 2015 hosted by National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).



The Philippine delegation from the Division of City Schools Manila bags several awards in the 9th International Exhibition of Inventions in Kunshan (IEIK 2016) which is held in Kunshan International Exhibition Center during 17-20 November 2016 by China Association of Inventions (CAI) and International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA).
The Manila Young Inventors Association was adjudged the Collin International Best Delegation Award in recognition of the outstanding performance of the group.
The inventors from Esteban Abada High School, Ramon Magsaysay High School and Victorino Mapa High School emerged winners among 38 countries and regions as well as international organizations around the world such as USA, Canada, Korea, Sweden,Russia,Poland,Thailand,IFIA,WIPO,WWIEA
,IORA and so on.
The theme of IEIK 2016 is Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Activities such as inventions exhibitions, technology trade, international forum and invention training are conducted simultaneously during the Exhibition, which make IEIK 2016 a really great international event of invention.
